Quick question concerning swap of head on obd1/obd2 1.5 sohc motor.
my friend is in the process of getting a new motor in his 95 dx...
he was sold a d15b8 motor, and he's realizing that there will be more involved in installing it into his car.
he wants to know can he swap the head from his d15b7 to the new motor to eliminate some of his headaches?
quick answers are greatly appreciated.
or if someone knows how to swap in a d15b8 with out changing ECU that would be awesome too.
*edit sorry about the title i just realized that d15b8 is a obd1 cx motor*
*i am at work and kinda rushed to put this up here for him, i really dont know much about those motors*
sooo can you put a DX head on a CX? and is there any wiring involved or should he sell and move on?

Re: Quick question concerning swap of head on obd1/obd2 1.5 sohc motor.
Ok. a b8 is a cx motor and a b7 is a dx motor. the 8 is a 12 valve and the 7 is a 16 valve. I know guys that have done that head swap before but it was still sluggish as far as power goes. so the best bet in this case is to either get a complete d15b7 and put in it or swap in the d15b8 and give up some power. the ecu thats in it now should work with either motor with no problem at all.
just curious what model is the car?

yeah the car is just a DD its not a power beast... and i realised what i was asking after i posted it. i actually fixed my original post a few minutes before you posted.
the car is a dx so it has a d15b7... i didn't go with him but i guess he kinda got ripped off by this dude that sold him the b8 block.
the shop that is doing his swap are going to use the b7 head along with the intake mani and see what happends. i am not quite sure why they didn't just use the entire b8... then again its not my car. i just want my friend to be mobile again.
