quick answer needed, problem with exhaust.
i need a quick fix, not perm.....my muffler (axle back) doesnt quick bolt up with the rest of the cat back....the flange needs to be rotated....shops around here charge around 120.
can i get a peice of heavy duty ruber couplings from home depot and cut the flanges off, and just couple them togeather? I took a lighter to the rubber, and it seems to withstand heat well....after a while it will start melting.
its around 9 degrees here in MN, and i dont think the muffler pipe gets that hot....would this work? i need something till i get paid.

Even if the outside of the rubber doesn't do anything I'd think the inside where the actual heat and exhaust is passing would deteriorate quite quickly. Is there anyway to get a piece of patch pipe with some muffler mend in there until you can get it done properly? If so I would try that.

not really, right now my muffler is rotated 90* and looks gay. i just wanna cut both flanges off and tie them togeather, but frickin exhaust shops charge more than my exhaust is worth!

haha just got back from another muffler shop a bit ago, $225! to cut the flange off, rotate it 15 degrees and reweld it. I bought my axle back for 50 bucks expletive that! im gonna keep calling, but they quote me around 100 bucks over the phone, and when i get there, the guy says something like 175 to do it. i can probably do it myself.

is that sarcastic? or you being for real? if your serious that is great news....does this stuff really hold up well? i dont think the rear muffler section would get too hot, some heat is dissapated before that, but not much.
do you reccomend cutting a slit in both sides of the flex pipe, and then clamping it on using exhaust claps? and then jb weld the crap outta it? just want it to stay on.

No I'm being serious, F%&$ 250 bucks at a muffler shop just to do that. I'd deffinitley say cut very small slits in each end of the flex pipe, that way you can get it over perhaps a wider part of the pipe, then clamp it down and JB weld the ends, or use some stuff that has the title "Muffler Mender" usually an orange and white tube or box with some heat sheilding and some mesh wire that wraps around. My personal experience with the stuff failed though so that's why I'm leaning towards the JB Weld
EDIT* While you have a temp fix to the exhaust, keep looking for small shops that deal in exhaust. All the big ones around me like Tri-County Muffler and Mida's and so forth all wanted an immense amount of money to fix my subaru exhaust. As a matter of fact, both of them said that I had to get the brand new from the factory cat-back exhaust since they couldn't bend them the way the factory did (mind you i had just a resonator missing so it was like an 8 inch gap between two pieces of perfectly good piping, just the welds rusted off) They told me it'd be about 350 for that piece of piping, plus a new muffler, plus their labor, would have been like 500 bucks. I found this little back woods shop, if you will, that put a piece of stainless steel patch pipe in, welded it, for 32 dollars GRAND TOTAL! And it still is not broken/rusted or what-have-you to this day.

There's a Midas near me that did minor piping expansion and a flange weld on an exhaust I brought in for like $50. Forget the places that keep saying you need this, this, this, this, and this, with a grand total of $holyshit!

alright, im gonna remove both pipes and bring it into a shop, they probably gonna charge me a grip, but i kinda want a flex pipe in there, since my car vibrates so bad, that i still have a headache lasting 2 days and counting....hopefully they wont charge me a grand for that, they always seem to look at it and say "5 thousand dollars plus tax, visa?"
