Questions On Gauge Lights That DIY Doesn't Explain - '00 EJ8
So, the DIY was posted for a EG and I have an EJ8. It's pretty much dead and anything I asked went unanswered so I figured I'd ask it here.
What size bulbs am I looking for to re do the bulbs in my cluster? Nobody in the thread was really sure about it.
Also, I want to go LED but I don't know the exact parameters around that either. I know I'd need a resistor to some extent but could I go with red or would that be too dark? Would Amber suffice the color I'm looking for? I also wouldn't know the size I'd need through LEDs either, because I think their size numbers change from standard bulbs. More information on my specific problem would be appreciated.

how does the ej8 light socket look?
i did it on my eg last month. i still had to cut out some plastic for them to fit and unless its different which idk the LEDs have built in resistors.

Ah, they do? Beautiful on that aspect then. I honestly do not know. It's my daily driver, so until I'm ready for this project, my gauge cluster will not be moving. I do not know how many go where or their sizes which the DIY never explained either. Also, I do not know which color LEDs will give me what effect through the lens.

superbrightLEDS.com is where i got mine. http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...%2F74-xHP.html to be exact.
what color is the lens if you know? or do you mean all the warning lights and what not?
i know finding the bulbs was hard someone said they got these at the bottom of the page and had good luck with em. still had to grind out the socket.
for the most part i't looks the same. just different places and maybe a little different lighting effect. id say buy a dremel and a little grinder attachtment. spend about 2 hours grinding out all the sockets and don't put it in fully until your sure all the bulbs are in right. if you put em in backwards they won't light up.

Oh, I already have a dremel don't worry about that. I'm just looking to re - do the white lights that illuminate my gauges to a nice red glow. Idk if I put in red LEDs and they come out far too dark, whereas an orange - ish amber will end up coming out to my perfect red. I guess I could buy generic LEDs and just grind till they fit, but if I could get close to exact numbers, I'd love it.

they still hold in well. and with LEDs it'll be bright. mine are red and its bright. minus the spots that were backwards. i never took new picks.
i would say keep your brights one normal. that LED is blinding at night. this is on a del sol eg so take if for what you will.

this is where my DIY came from too incase it may help anymore.

Ah, looks like they were saying resistors put in yourself hold better than ones pre - installed with the LED. All I'm trying to do is replace the background lights, nothing more. I wish there was something in depth like that for my cluster that pointed out each one. That's what I'm looking for here.

You know what? After going into the FAQ (Go figure) I found a 99-00 write up. It didn't have LEDs but it had the number of bulbs and sizes I was looking for.

lol the place no one goes. i just found one that had bulb sizes. seems 24 and 74. which i know because i never had to grind that one. but it was for cruise control which my car doesn't own. I imagine they'd be the same for LEDs if you wanna go that route.
well nice job. good luck on this little project. if you can get the bulbs to just fit right in it'll take maybe a half hour including getting the dash out.
