Questions on D series
OK I got a question for you guys about what motor to use and an opinion of what you guys think of it
I can get a D16Z6 for 500 dollars whole swap minus harness. So what I will need to put it in is the D16Y8 harness an OBD2-1 conversion harness, OBD2 Distributor, injectors. I can use my B18 injectors for a while that will work. Or I can Wait a couple of moths and put a D16Y8 in my car and have to get nothing at all just a direct bolt in. The advantages of D16Z6 I will get the OBD1 ecu, which I will need for hondata plus once i get my friends motor in a couple months I can sell the Z6 I guess. D16Y8 just bolts in no prob but I will need to buy a OBD1 P28 and a conversion harness. What do you guys think? What would you do? I am getting the Y8 no matter what. but the Z6 is a good deal and gets me to the turbo project sooner. The car is a 96 so OBD2. or anyone know any better pricing? is 500 for the complete swap good? i will also have to buy the 2-1 harness (150) and the dizzy (75) and the oil pump(?) for the Knock sensor. |
supposedly the z6 head flows better. get the z6 and put the y8 mani on it

Re: (thehatchninja)
Y8 also has a better stock exhaust manifold, tranny, and slightly more aggressive cam.

Re: (RyanCivic2000)
So I should go Z6 keep the head add the Y8 cam and Y8 manifold. i am getting a turbo manifold either CX/HF/VX mani or a revhard. so exhaust mani doesnt matter.

Re: (B18C1 '96 Coupe)
Get the Y8 tranny too if you can, it has steel shift forks unlike the weak aluminum ones in the Z6.

Re: (RyanCivic2000)
k. got it. SO here is my parts list i guess
D16Z6 motor for now. then in a few months when my friend gives me his. keep the motor in and go the Y8 manifold. Y8 cam and Y8 tranny. Sounds like a deal to me. now I just gota get 150 for the conversion harness and however much for the Engine harness. Anyone jknow good prices on a D16Y8 engine harness? |
Re: (B18C1 '96 Coupe)
Don't foget with a Y8 cam in a Z6 you will need a adj. cam gear, because the timing is a few deg. different. I think it was 5 deg advance or retard, can't remember.

On the 2000 Civic EX this is true...Otherwise it's the same. |
Re: (RyanCivic2000)
but my question is will it make more power the cam than just sticking the Y8 motor in?

Not exactly sure I have a whole Y8 motor myself. I just know that the specs on the Y8 cam are slightly more aggressive than the Z6's. Try it and find out. My guess is that it will make more power. Cam specs... http://www.hadamotorsport.com/D16camshafts.htm |
