question of my potential ride (motor + swap questions....)
Hi guys,
I found a EK HB today. there is already a H22 engine in it, but I am thinking very very seriously swapping it out for a B18 if I end up buyig the car.
several questions:
1. Will I be able to sell the H22 engine (with 35K or so) for 2500 dollars? Are they desirable at all??
2. mounts are modified, perhaps cut, to fit the H22 in. Does that mean it's going to be a PITA to get it back to suit a B18 motor??
thanks
Jack

Re: question of my potential ride (typer77)
If youre going to buy the car, keep the H22. If you want a B18 either buy a hatch with a B18 or buy a stock hatch and put a b18 in it. It wont be worth the trouble of taking the H22 out and finding a buyer and its always better to know EXACTLY whats been done to your car. Buying a swap from someone is risky.

**** I hope this doesn't turn into another B-Series vs. H-series thread
I'd say that $2,500 is less than what I'd ask. If the motor is in with a mount kit, the there shouldn't be any mounts cut on or re-welded unless the swap was done ghetto or before good mount kits were available.
You could easily sell the whole swap with axles, mount kit, etc. for $3,500. No question. I see just the H22A swap without the right axles nor mounts go for $3,300 all day long. Mount kits can go for $650 easily, so you see my point I'm sure.
It's your choice - I would drive the car for a while with the H22A swap before I rushed out to sell the swap. I would also make it a point to drive and/or ride in as many B-Series swaps that you can also. Try to find various stages - stock B16A, B18C1, B18C5, boosted, all-motor, etc.
Only then would you know better on what to do.
While I have never been an advocate of the H-Series swaps into Civics, I cannot honestly say that I have gotten to drive one for an extended period of time to really get to know the WHOLE car and how the H22A effects it.
I'd buy it for sure if it's in with a good mount kit. Got timeslips? Does the seller have dyno runs too? Lots of people can't even get their B-Series motors running right, so the H-Series poses problems too. Make sure it even runs right before buying too.
Keep us updated!

Re: question of my potential ride (B18C5-EH2)
Thanks for the help!
I have yet to find out how exactly the mounts are modified. The car is running strange. Check engine light is on, the owner claims an OBDI ecu is needed. The car vibrates everytime it slows down to almost a stop. the front is too heavy while I tried to make a quick turn.

I wouldnt buy a car with a swap. Theres no telling whats been done to that vehicle and people do some CRAZY things to cars!!! I especially woulndt buy a h22 swapped civic only to pull out the h22 and drop in a b18.

Re: question of my potential ride (Ricey McRicerton)
I have a civic with a b18c. I was about to buy the H22 because it's awesome for the 1/4 if you can grip. That thing has a lot of torque. My mechanic has a civic coupe with the H22 that has 220 hp and he ran a 14 cause he couldn't get traction. But the handling sucks so forget road courses. That's why i didn't put it in my car cause i'm a big fan of handling and the b18c is still fast

Re: question of my potential ride (Spoon1)
cool. thanks guys, so I moved on to try to find the right car.
now I am considering an EG but it has very minor rust and some fender bender. Not that I care about the mileage but it only has 60K miles. asking 3500... it probably will cost about 600 to fix cosmetic issues.
there is also a EK automatic (EK stick is sooo hard to find)... and perhaps I will do the auto/stick swap... what do you think??
Budget is limited.....

actually the tranny side mount on a civic has to be taken off and replaced and moved forward with the kits mount.. hasport and place racing kits are like that i just did it.. so if you know a kit that you dont have to cut a motor mount for.. its most likely a pos kit..
