Question: D16y8 vs. D16z7 ???

I'm looking at buying a 98 civic that has an engine swap ( i think it was crashed) but when i did a quick search on the internet i found that the 98 civic ex had a D16Z7 but this one had a D16Y8 in it... the hp is the same but what is the difference? thanks

There is no z7. Theres a y7 and a z6. z6 is obd1 and y7 is obd2.

y7 - obd2 non vtec (DX)
z6 - obd1 vtec (EX coupe, SI hatch)
y8 - obd2 vtec (EX)

IMO, don't buy a car that already has an engine swap in it. You don't know who's headaches you're taking over.

Next, do a little more research on what engines come in what cars. There is hundreds of threads regarding what engines come stock and which don't.
