question for d15 vtec owners
i have a jdm d15b vtec. ive heard of guys saying that running on the p28 causes the motor to run rich and that also leads to having to change your oil more often. i have to change mine about every 2 months because it really starts to get black. is there any thruth to this. also...is the only difference between the p28 and the p08 the 1 wire o2 (well..besides the fuel maps). would it be in my benefit to switch to a p08. ive heard you get a little more out of the d15b running it. truth or not. any know from experience?

Re: question for d15 vtec owners (a1320honda)
I noticed that my d15b runs a little rich while using the p28.
As for the oil thing, I still change mine every 2000-2500 miles.

There is a little too much fuel, and the timing map is not correct with the P28 running the D15B. Since you already have the P28, just chip it with a P08 program with the 4 wire o2, ELD, injector test, and BARO sensor routines enabled, and the 112mph speed limiter disabled. If you need a chip kit or full installation, let me know.

black oil isn't bad oil. it just means that its been heated to a certain temperature, that's all.
you shouldn't change your oil just because it's black.

well i can definatly tell a difference in the way the car runs after a fresh oil change. it pulls harder and idles smoother. to cure this problem i can chip the p28 i know, but what about using a fpr and leaning it out a little?

That never works properly. It's not like you need to lean it out a uniform amount. The fuel maps are different, and the D15B has a different torque curve than the Z6, so the maps aren't even that close. You would also be running on the less than ideal Z6 timing maps.

Interestingly...
I did my first datalog today with my new JDM D15B. I was running a D16z6 based basemap to start with. The car idled at between 10-11 AFR!

well, i just want to be sure im getting the optimal fuel maps and whatnot. i know the p28 runs it pretty well, i mean my car pulls like a GSR with bolt-ons. but like i said, my exhaust is always covered in black soot, so its definatly running rich. i know i should be able to lean it out and make a little more power. i dont know if i can do that with a fpr, or if i have to rechip it?

ouch thats a bit of a burn...
IMHO theres no point swapping your ecu. Do it once do it right, get a chip specifically made to suit your car.

Damn dude, CROME is a noun. It is the name of a piece of software used to edit Honda ROM files. When in this thread were we talking about chrome wheels or anything else chrome plated at all? Maybe we should ask John Cui to change his name and the name of his software to match convention.
More proof for you: http://forum.pgmfi.org/
Scroll down to the software section. Low and behold: CROME
