Question for civic ex drivers
My question is not to be flamed.
Do you guys feel your vtec, when it kicks in.
Assuming on an engine with i/h/e setup.

Re: Question for civic ex drivers (sshaikh01)
Not really, there is a slight burst of speed around 4800rpm(when it is supposed to kick in) but it's not very noticeable. I do notice it a lot more now that I am boosted, in fact it is almost irritating so I kicked the engagement point up to around 6000rpm.

Yes you can tell, the engine is alot louder once it hits about 4800 and it acclerates faster in my opinion, which only makes since though.

For me I really dont feel too much of the V-tec when it kicks in but I can sure hear it much louder. I can say that i sorta pulls a little quicker.

Actually, i think its 5200 rpm, but correct me if im wrong 97civicferio, and it probably really also depends on wehter or not you have a M/T or A/T in the feeling part of it, I guess. I might not know what I'm talkin bout, but I feel alot of my engine in using my clutch.

Re: Question for civic ex drivers (DragonCTR69)
Notice how we are giving different answers for the vtec engagement(vtec kicks in at 4700, 4800, 5000, 5500). It should be clear of how noticeable vtec is on the d16. Truth is its pretty hard to tell with our engines, thats why we can't give a consistent answer. LOL!!!

Re: Question for civic ex drivers (maxim)
i couldnt hear my vtec when i didnt have my cat cuz my exhaust was so damn loud. but now that i installed a new cat i can hear it. as far as performance i would say it accelerates faster.

Re: Question for civic ex drivers (dirtySOHC's)
I have a K&N drop in and Apex WS cat back abd 1st and 2nd I can't hear VTEC. I do hear VTEC in 3rd and 4th between 4500-5000 rpm. I have yet to "feel" VTEC in a SOHC motor.

Re: Question for civic ex drivers (CIV616)
you guyz are hilarious...vtec kicks in at 5500...and no you cant feel it....its a single cam!!!!!!!!!!!!and vtec on the d16 is only to keep a smooth linear powerband..not to create a surge of power....If you want a somewhat surge of power....you should get a bseries motor or an H22A....but from a d16...you can only hear it.....and even the sound is nothing really all that noticeable unless your looking for the sound....the best way to hear it..is with a short ram intake, without an exhaust....because if your exhaust can be heard...it will drone out the sound of vtec in a single cam...and that is how subtle and quiet vtec on a single cam is...lol..when my sinlge cam was bone stock..you could not hear or feel vtec at all..only after i installed a bull poo poo ricey intake was when i could hear the switchover...lol..but still no feel...just a smooth linear power band all they way till redline...
My two cents ,

Re: Question for civic ex drivers (sshaikh01)
4,800!? On a SOHC? I can hear my Vtec easily with my intake, but as far as feeling I don't notice anything. The only thing I notice is the tach speeding up quicker. I don't even hear the switch over to an indicated 5,800 or so. However, I have noticed that when I have been racing some of my friends I was pulling at a steady rate when racing, but when Vtec kicked in I pulled a little harder. Even my friend in his R was surprised.

Re: Question for civic ex drivers (96 SOHC VTEC)
I knew someone who would go half throttle and at 5800 would go WOT and say that's his vtec. AND HIS FRIEND'S WERE ACTUALLY IMPRESSED!!!!

Re: Question for civic ex drivers (sshaikh01)
why wait for 4k + befor u feel the vtec kick in..get a JRSC and feel it all the time..they have a vtec controller where u can lower the vtec kickin to 3k..besides, isnt unheathy to be driving around at 4 and 5k all the time?

Re: Question for civic ex drivers (deepnite)
umm making ur vtec at 3 grand is not feasible and not efficient...there is a lot more to it than just swappin on a vtec controller and turning it to 3,000...there is a lot of proper tuning needed......and plus its just not possible..if it were that easy...don't you think everyone would be doing that....

Re: Question for civic ex drivers (sshaikh01)
If I REALLY pay attention I can tell, both in sound and pull. No where near as pronounced as it is with a DOHC motor though.
