Question b16a2 bar'd into EK
heres the story i live in cali.. i have a 99 EK Dx.. and planning on doing a b16a2 swap .... im taking the motor from my friends EM1.....its also a 99....bone stock motor......im taking everything off the car.. cat/sensors/ everything
my question is
do i have to get this motor bar'd legal at ref station or can i just run it as a direct replacement becuz ive done some research and come across useful information about not needing to get motor bar'd if its meant for the car
thanks agen ht... any feedback or info and comments would b appreciated
and done b afraid to pm me useful information

Re: Question b16a2 bar'd into EK
I also have some question, i have actually tried to get a hold of BAR but its not user friendly….but from the calls i have made I'm under the understanding that you need to have same yr motor as your own factory built and or newer. Also that the Emission Label of the newer vehicle must be the same, basically cloning it. WHat i don't understand is that i was told that (in my case 96 civic coupe) if i have the b16a2 to "BAR" my swap i need a P2P edu and the single cam Vtec off a 96-98 d16y8 harness and an O2sensor extender and a new CatConv With a receipt …i Originally thought i needed the P2T edu with wiring harness….

A friend told me that at the time of inspection they do look at what type of computer you have and that they connect a scanner to your obd2 port to ensure your wiring or harness is correct….im really lost.

Re: Question b16a2 bar'd into EK
Simplest way to answer this is, make sure that
1) It's a US version of the engine (in your case it is)
2) It's at least the same year as your car or newer
3) Match all smog related equipment to the engine and not the car
Those aren't absolute as there are always tiny exceptions but if you adhere to those basic guidelines you should be in good shape for the referee (California specifically). Whoever told you that you need a P2P ECU, which I understand is a D16Y8 ECU, is wrong and I wouldn't listen to that person. Best bet though is to speak with your local referee directly to get the most accurate answers.
