Question is ABS better to have or not to have?
Been thinking about this for a while I drive a 95 civic cx hatchback with non abs brakes and is it better to have ABS brakes or not? Already searched and couldnt find anything but this question has been bothering me for a while and I think I might be trying to get into SCCA sometime soon hopefully.
Thanks
Mark

For shortest stopping distance, its probably better to have them. But if you dont i wouldnt worry about putting them on, my dx of course doesnt have it and i've never really wanted them. As for the SCCA, how many peolpe has put abs on thier non-abs cars?

you do not want abs. it is not worth the effort. I sale brake conversions at my work to people who want to get rid of there abs system. IMO it's just more parts waiting to fail. I like my cars as simple as possible.

ABS is one of those things that's good to have, but if you don't have, learn to do without...
Shortest stopping distance by far = ABS
Most consistent stopping distance by far = No ABS
If you drive your car every day and it already has ABS on it, just leave it on it.
If you want to go do some autoX stuff, then take it off, as it'll create discrepancies in braking distances.
You don't have them at the moment? Don't worry about them, the cost of installing them on an originally non-ABS car is pretty damn high.

I know 96-00 civic coupes have abs brakes on them and I was just wondering if there good how do you guys like them or do you guys remove those for weight reduction? Anyways I have never heard of people putting abs brakes on non abs cars but I am trying to figure my way into SCCA ext year and I do have a rear disc conversion fot my hatch off of a 96 integra I cut the abs wiring back there because I dont have abs all I need is the ebrake cables and I am good. But that is all I am asking I searched and didnt find anything abs vs non abs. Thanks for your responses.

Optional, maybe, NOFX would have the list of which cars has ABS and which cars didn't, PM her if you need it.
Though it was optional on the '97 EX, I can tell you that for sure, my car doesn't have it. So it's def. not all coupes.

No, on ALL EX models ('93-'00) it was optional, it was never standard.
My old EX ('95 coupe) didn't have it either, nor does my current ('97 EX Coupe) have them.
Both are stock "not have them" - not like they're on there and don't work, like some peoples' .
But yeah, optional. I don't know about any of the other trims besides it wasn't available on the 5g CX/DX/VX...and possibly the 6g DX too, I think, and I don't even wanna say those with 100% certainty, I only know about the EX's, don't know about the others'.

1. The 99-00 si, or EM1 does NOT have ABS.
2. Only select EX (as well as the 4DR GX) models came equipped with ABS. Some have it, some don't. The VIN differs on whether or not the car came equipped with it, that's how the distinguish is made.
