QUESTION ABOUT WATER PUMP/TIMING BELT
i herd that on hondas you have to change timing belt and water pump every 90k. is this a must? or can you ride it longer safe? and how can you tell when you timing belt and water pump is about to go? thanks.

ehh i have seen people run timing belts longer than that but if the dealer recommends it, it is for a reason, its not that hard to change it though.

it all depends on the condition of the parts after 90k, but if they fail on you it'll cost a lot more $ to fix the problems than you would spend on the maintence. personally, I replace mine sooner than that (since I beat on my car).

usually about $100 for water pump and $40 for timing belt (although that included balance shaft belt for me).

I have a brand new honda water pump I never got to use.. EG hatch was totalled on Friday.
I got it from manhonda.com

i have snapped a timing belt on my 93 d16z6 motor before and no bent valves... lucky eh... when i put a new one on i forgot to tighten the tensioner and while it was running jumped like 3 teeth then fell off.. i believe thats what valve reliefs are for and the single cam is not high compressoin.. now maybe a b series id be more worried about it but meh

thats dealer recommended, you can take it to a dealership or auto mechanic and have it inspected.
