Question about rev....
just joined the honda scene and i have a stock 94 ex civic coupe that i just bought about 5 days ago...
while pounding it down a stright... my car wont go any higher than 5.5k rpms... tried it in first and second gear, and same thing..
is it a rev limiter thing that can be modded mechanically, or is it an ecu thing...??

vtec solinoid unplugged or bad. I know that when you have vtec and you unplug your solonoid, it cuts out when vtec is supposed to engange. its a good way to test for vtec. and on a y8, vtec kicks in a 5.5k. check your engine bay if its unplugged or anything else is unplugged, it should rev up to 7.2k i think

Yep, these guys are steering you right. Either VTEC solenoid unplugged, VTEC oil pressure switch unplugged (or either of them bad), you are bound to have a CEL for this one, pull it off the car and tell us what it is.
http://www.c-speedracing.com and go to FAQ's and see how to pull them if you don't know.

Re: Question about rev.... (Sleepy_Red_hatch)
no check engine light goes on... but then again, the bulb or whatever goes on could be bad too...
i had one of my friends check the solinoid and he said the vtech is good... but then again, i trust you guys with more experience...
if it is the solinoid, where could i get another one.... or can i check to see if something else is wrong...

yeah the cel is supposed to go on when you first turn your key, first or second turn i think and it should show up for a couple of seconds. and if you jumped the ecu to check for codes, the cel light should go on at one point or another to show safe mode (i think thats what its called please feel free to correct me.)

Sorry I can't help you with the bulb type bro, but that is definately the start to your problems. You get that worked out and we can troubelshoot the rest easily and learna few things in the process.
If you try the search, I am sure there is an answer somewhere in the archives for the type of bulb.

Re: (Jay_Sensing)
update on my car...
turns out, there was no CEL at all... so took out seat bealt one and used that one iinstead....
pulled the code from the ECU and it flashes 21... took out Vtec solenoid and had the filter cleaned (though it didnt look clogged at all)... reset ECU..
took the car out and same thing... rev doesnt go higher than about 5.5k... pulled the code again and the CEL stays constant (which means that theres nothing wrong, right?)...
so now im stuck.....
