listen up!
a knock sensor does exatly what it says: it sences engine knock.
when it sences a knock (misfire, detonation) then it usually retards ign. timing, depending on running data.
if you dont plug it in, you dont have knock (misfire, detonation) protection via ign. timimg control.
if its stock, it may not hurt much, but if you plan on modding it, at least design a controller for knock sensor senceitivity so you can run it.
boost or high comp. + false ign. timimg = boom, bye bye engine.
