A normal smooth pipe that is the same diameter as the rest of the exhaust will have flow like there was never a catalytic there.

Punching out the catalytic material is a bad idea, because the OEM cat opens to a wider diameter because of the restriction of the catalytic material, remove that and it can impede the flow and pulses.

Gutted Cat = LOSS of power and sounds like ****.

Test Pipe = Gain in power and sounds better.

Use a hi-flow cat for N/A applications.

no it wasnt aerospeed, where i bought it doesnt sell aerospeed and no there was no difference whatsoever in noise at all, not buzzing, not louder not softer. My firned gutted his and it was nasty sounding, I'd go with what they said to buy. for 35 bucks you can't go wrong. I have stock exuaust so maybe thats why. (Del Sol SI)

Default Re: Question about Flow of a Test Pipe (USDMDC2)

i had one on my hatch, top end was alot better. Got noticable louder. I also just did the gutted cat thing on my ef. Flows much better then having it not gutted. But like people say. It does create turbulance, which is a bad thing when it comes to flow velocity. Test pipe would be better then gutted cat. So it depends how cheap you are.

Suggestion: get a testpipe, keep the cat ungutted. Its worth alot more that way if you decide to sell it!
