question about the engine overheat light and temp needle
i'm sure this would pertain to all 92-00 civics, but mine exactly is a 96 ex.
Does anyone know if the engine overheat light is driven by the needle, meaning when the needle goes up to hot does it trigger the light to come on? I've never seen the overheat light come on in my car, but I assume my civic has one. If I dont even have an overheat light in the guage cluster, then I guess that will answer this thread
I ask this because my temp needle has been broke for a while. I've never had a problem occur, but I never know how hot my car is running. I've always assumed that if my car got to hot the light would come on saying its overheating, and then I could pull over and let it cool down and yadda yadda.
But today I thought of this, "what if the needle triggers a circuit as it goes up to hot that makes the light come on, and if the needle isn't working then my light won't ever come on."
On a related note, how hard is it to fix a needle that has snapped off the hole that it plugs into. I broke it a while ago when I took apart my guage cluster to windex it out (the rag snagged the needle and it snapped it leaving part of the metal pin still in the hole). I've been busy and keep forgetting about it, but I figured maybe I can put super glue on the part of the metal pin that is still on the needle and stick it back in the hole and hope it catches.
thanks in advance

Re: question about the engine overheat light and temp needle (homestarrunner96)
theres no light. u have to replace the fuel/temp part of your cluster or replace the whole cluster.
