question about the direction of my build
i have most everything planed out in my head of what i want to do but theres a question i have to ask about my engine ideas. right now i have a d16y8 with intake and exhaust, its ok but after i do a complete suspention rebuild im going to need something more. so far this is my idea, do a home made turbo with what i got or build the civic "gsr" that never was, a ls/vtec frankenstein, maybe turbo that in the long run too. heres the delema, im in california, so would a home made turbo even pass smog visually. i have to keep this car a LONG time, lets say the next 5 years till i pay it off, so it has to be street legal. any help is more than welcome.

Re: question about the direction of my build (divisionskate)
If your willing to swap and then deal with the BAR; which isn't that hard to pass but it does add around a lot of extra $$$$ to the swap install cost if you have it professionally done....I've never heard of anybody being able to pass BAR on their own.
Or your other option for your current motor are any CARB approved parts, such as DC headers, greddy turbo kits, etc.. That's pretty much your limited options to stay legal as far as semi-serious power adders.
