Question about civics
i'm thinking of buying a 95-97 civic. i've noticed there's alot of different types. i dont want the hatchback i prefer the coupe. from what i see on edmunds the ex is better than the dx,hx. but those are the only 3 models listed. what about si, and any others. basically i'm wondering which model is best. reliability is #1 concern but i also want some power. i realize that stock, they're all slow, but which is best? any suggestions? thanks in advance

Re: Question about civics (Tabarnak)
the best one of all in my opinion is the si....its pretty quick stock...and i believe that it will smoke any of the other ones stock....if you are looking for speed i would reccomend getting a hb and then swapping a new engine in that puppy later on....but i like the coupes but hatches have their advantages....i think the si was made in 95 and it was a hb and it didnt come back til 99-00 years and when it did comeback it came with a b16a and it was a coupe not a hatch......so if you want the power of the b16 then your gonna have to do a swap based on the years that you were looking for 95-97

Re: Question about civics (Tabarnak)
It depends on your budget. DX don't have VTEC. EX and SI do (EX is single overhead cam – SOHC) Si is DOHC.
As far as reliablility, i've had a DX hatch, and a 1979 Civic 1200 (what's VTEC?) and both were rock-solid in reliablility. So far, my 98 EX has been, too.

Re: Question about civics (Tabarnak)
95-97 huh.
The models go from 92-95 and 96-00 with a slight difference between 96-98 and 99-00.
The SI's were in the 92-95 models and only came back out for 99-00. There fore if you want a 95 SI you are going to be buying a hatchback.
If you are planning on putting in a bigger engine, the HX is the Coupe to get, it is the lightest of the coupes and still has power windows and mirrors. (big deal)
But, not only is it light, it has VTEC wiring and EGR wiring (incase you decide you want a H22). And no sunroof......40 lbs of crap that take away head room and are at the highest point in the car.

Re: Question about civics (Spade)
but i think iwould have to go with the 95 ex coupe, they are a little more romier inside, and they look pretty cool but they also have a lot of extra weight that the hx,dx, do not have

Re: Question about civics (Tabarnak)
thanks for all the replies. i'm leaning towards the ex coupe, i'm not planning on doing any modifications/swaps at all. i have a 95 eagle talon tsi that i'm working on, the only reason i want a civic is for a reliable everyday, low mpg car. so i'm keeping it stock, and by the sounds of it i guess the ex is the one to get since i dont want anything newer than 96, cause that would be going over my budget. thanks
