Default question about CEL

ok i was driving along in my hot *** coupe lol and all i know the cel comes on.when i turn off the car it goes out and does come back on for a lil bit. it doesnt affect performance and i have already had it checked out once before it happened.th eguy mentioned there was nothign stored to my computer. i donno it only happens whgen the car is warm or at the "correct" temp. i know someone already posted somethin gliek this but i dotn have an engien so swap so i thought it maybe different. i have a BONE stock d16z6.also my speedo doesnt work but it occasionally kicks in then dies again. could i just replace the speedometer and roll them milegae to what it says on the busted speedo?

probably your vss or somethign on your tranny, measures your speed....When your CEL comes on check the code....leave your car running and you have to short the circuit by the ecu....look at the sticky at the top of this page it will explain all the codes and where to short the circuit

For the speedo working only intermitently, try cleaning the the gear on your vss. It's located near the back of the tranny near the starter and sticks straight up (maybe 4"), and has an electrical plug connected to the top of it. Let me find a pic for you...

Here:

**image borrowed from B18C5 EH2's axle replacement tutorial**

To remove it remove the tall bolt that threads into the block with a 10mm socket, and ONLY that bolt. In the pic its the orange one (but yours won't be orange). Once that's out, grip the vss and pull up while twisting it clockwise. If it hasn't been removed before it might be a bit tough. Look at the gear on it and clean all of the gunk off of it if there is any.

If it's still giving you problems you could try swapping with a friend for a day or two to see if that's what's causing the problem. Another possibility is if your electrical system isn't getting enough power the ecu shuts off power to your guages to save power. That most likely isn't the problem but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway.

As for the cel thing I don't know. Its wierd that there aren't any codes stored at all, because it's supposed to store it whenever something sets the light off. Do you have any electrical problems? Codes are erased if the positive is disconnected for a bit.

no i already had the vss checked out and it was still in good condition so maybe it is just the gauge cluster??????as i know of it has no electrical probs. i could be wrong tho.lol but ya the cel came on liek last month adn then two days later it disappear when i sent it to my mechanic who said it never came on and was never stored. so maybe it is the 02 sensor? it doesnt do anything performance wise, so i can live with it for a bit but the yellow light is pretty annoying. lol any info available would be helpful tho and i thank the guys who already put in info.
