Default question

after a civic has been running for a while (operating temp) if you take off the oil cap should you feel any air being pushed out? like pressure being released?

sounds like excess crankcase ventilation pressure...although your stock PCV system should be taking care of this, i'm not sure if it is bad if you feel it when you take off your oil cap though...

well the reason i ask is because i am spraying oil from my oil pan which leads me to believe that i have too much built up pressure and it is forcing it out between the gasket.

Got some bad rings there bud. Just finished a rebuild for a customer because of the very same reason. Only to find out that not only were the rings toast, he had broken the ringlands on 3 pistons. WAS a turbo motor about 5 months ago. He pulled it off and was running N/A and then it started blowing oil out of the oil pan.

when you take off the cap does it sound like you are opening a coke can? If so then you probably have a serious problem, otherwise some air is going to come out of there b/c there is a lot of movement going on in your head...It's not uncommon what your car is doing but the leak at your oil pan, I can't help you with that....

Does your car smoke? Have you done a compression test? It's common that the air is coming out of the oil cap so stop worrying about that....

Yes, that is normal. Not a lot of air, but if you feel a little it is perfectly normal.

Just FYI as well, please title your thread with a briefing of what you are asking/posting. Like "question about my motor", not just "question".

well my car is white and i have noticed that i get black crap on my bumper, but my headgasket was just replaced and it might be left over crap left in the tailpipe, other than that i smokes like any other. did a compression check 2 months ago everything was fine across the board. most people tell me it is the oil pan, but i have never known oil spraying out from between the oil pan and block just because of a warped oil pan, and i am making sure it is the oil pan before i spend 90 bucks for a new one and find out after the new oil pan my car still leaks
