Quaife install and tranny inspection (56k no way)
Hello,
Sorry for the large pics, but i thought detail would be needed to inspect the parts.
If you need resize let me know.
I'm currently rebuilding my spare z6 tranny. The person who I bought if from said it worked fine except for a light grind when shifting to 3rd at high rpm. I guess i'm gonna try and replace the syncro, just wondering what else should I replace while i'm in there. I spun all the bearings and the seem ok, i'm probably gonna replace my main input shaft bearing just in case, but from the pictures can anyone recommend what else to replace? Also any special things I need to do when installing the quaife?
Thanks in advance

Re: (jeffk182)
I'd like to look at the aluminum shift collar for 3rd/4th gear on the 3rd gear side. 3rd gear looks good and it APPEARS that the ring looks good, but can't really see. I usually see the shift collar wear out before anything else, and that can be had from a spare D CX tranny even...who knows, maybe his clutch or fluid was bad and the synchrors/gears are still mint!

Re: (darkcvc)
check the 3/4 shift collar for wear damage on the inside teeth, besides that everything looks pretty decent maybe besides your second gear and mesh teeth
check your 1/2 shift collar for damage on teh inside for damage to the 2nd gear side and tell me what it looks like

Re: (9psiTurboSI)
i'm suprised. you're gears look great, doesn't look like they were grinding at all. reverse on the bottom of the counter shaft doesn't even look bad.

Re: Quaife install and tranny inspection (ek4hatch)
that wear will definately cause grinding
If you have the option to get new ones because if it does not grind now it will soon
check this site out for your gear and syncro needs
