Putting together B20/vtec oil leaking from coolant arm water pump?! Headgasket???
Hey, Im almost done with a b20/vtec and doing some final prep before I get my intake manifold and hook everything else back up. I have a gsr head and the oil hole is plugged. I used arp studs and everything torqued in order to spec. Its a jdm b20b with internals untouched. I did re-use the headgasket and i cleaned it with brake parts cleaner and when i wiped it some of the black paint came off. So now I have the head and block all ready to go. When I filled it with oil, on the 4th quart it started leaking out from the water pump pipe to thermostat. Theres a small nipple in the middle of that pipe where oil was gushing out. WTF! Is this a head gasket issue or water pump issue or what??? Im glad I didnt connect all the cooling system yet thats for sure. What the hell is wrong here?

I am pretty positive that you need to change the head gasket because once the gasket is compressed once it is no good

Sounds like the oil you're pouring into the valve cover is going into an exposed coolant line, though I don't know how. I'd pull the coolant drain plug on the front of the blook and see if 3 quarts of oil drains out.

the head gasket isnt sealed and oil is getting where the coolant is

Yeah. I've read about cases where the dowel pins are too high and keep the head from mating with the block. It's possible to put the HG on upside down too isn't it?

Hey thanks for the replys. It was like i was pouring the oil straight into the water pump. I looked at a empty gsr block and i see there is a port from the #1 cylinder cooling jacket around cylinder to the water pump at the top of the wall.
Master thats a good idea im gonna take that nut off and see whats up. And maybe when i opened up the holes they werent far enough ill measure. Right now im taking off the head and gonna see if i notice anything. Headgasket is on right. Another thing i was thinking is that this head was sitting around for a good while. It had a few nicks that i took off w/ a file. Maybe i need to get the head resurfaced but i didnt think a few sweeps with a file would take off that much
