Re: Putting in my motor (from under the car)....not too 56k Friendly (eg cookiemonster)
Great Info!!!
Now, I may be taking my cylinder head off before I remove the swap. (taking b series out becuase of damaged block. and swaping a differnt block on.
I was wondering about droping the car down w/out the wheels. What do you do to avoid damaging the kuckles lower ball joint??? and the suspension?
*Also, where do you jack the vehicle up and down from... in this method?? the front?? and drag the motor diagonally out by the headlight? Do you leave the jack on the "lowest position." with the car resting on it when taking the motor out and mounting it back up?? or do you drop the car on the floor? and jack it back up on the sides of the vehicle???

I dropped my motor out from the bottom (head off, transmission off, cylinder block clunks off loudly since it's busted anyway) and dropped a new Y7 in through the top. I mix and match.
... and those guys in 2003 thought the thread was old!

another back from the dead post lol.
way i've always done it was leave trans in. take off everything (all manifolds and externals) remove the head, unbolt the block and pull it out.
then to put back in:
keep all manifolds and breakables off the motor.
get about 10 cylinder blocks, stack them up in a stair type formation. pick up and place on each set one at a time moving up towards the top/highest set.
once at the top set, step into the engine bay and make tiny moves towards the engine bay. once the oil pan is half way over the rad support pick up the motor ans set it into the bay.
and im sure you guys can figure out the rest.
though i've only done this with SOHC motors with NO TRANNY ATTACHED! so it wasn't to heavy. no im no buff guy im actually quite skinny but my height gives me the advantage i guess.
of course i can't suggest doing this but since ive always been stubborn and live with old people ive only had me to do this alone with no ones help so its not like i had a choice.
valve cover off:
cam and etc out:
head,and all mani's off:
motor out:
i'll upload pics of process to putting back in.
(note) motor being pulled was junk so please dont be shocked lol(/note)

thats how we do it down here is South Fl :X My friends have swapped like that. And thats how we got my original motor out of the car. But now I have a picker. Although with the picker we broke the TPS :/

not long so long as you dont get side tracked maybe about 10 hrs to remove and set back in.
yea one of the reasons i dont use a picker :p plus its kind of a work out for me once that time comes. infact im doing one at this very moment. swapping a friends eg from a d15b7 to a d15b2 and of course his clutch and flywheel were bad so im changing those right now.

wow, that's some scary ish.
Kudos to you guys that are throwing it in from the bottom, but I don't have those kinds of cojones. I've never had any kind of difficulty getting one in with a cherry picker and a jack. Well... I take that back slightly. A B20 with CRV tranny attached is a major pain to drop back into a CRV and get it to clear everything. But doable... if you remove the radiator.

Do you guys put the T bracket onto the motor first or attach it to the motor mount inside the engine bay?

10 hrs isnt bad. me and my dad pulled my boosted SOHC out of my car with tranny in 6 on a hot day. With a picker though. And it was his first time working on a Honda.
