i was wondering how hard it is to run the lines for a/c inside of the car? my friend has a wrecked 2000 ex...i could probably get all i need from him. i want it, so i dont want to hear about "a/c is for pussies"..whatever. i like having a car i can be comfortable in during the summer season. thanks

also, a take a look at how the A/C is hooked up in the wrecked civic. it should give you a rough idea on how to install it

It will be alittle bit of a pain.. esp when installing the Evaporator underneath the dash behind the glovebox. Other then that.. If you know how to work and install parts on a car it shouldnt be difficult just time consuming..

Also when installing please check the oil levels and try not to let the compressor and the reciever drier open to the air.. please get something to cap the holes.

Wiring should be easy.. just remove the wiring plugs from the donar car

no chance this hatch will be pre-wired....like use the same harness as models that came with a/c... and then a/c just wasnt installed? how hard is it to remove the dash? that would make installing it very simple i would think?

where do you buy a helms manual..and how much $. THANKS AGAIN!

From what i understand, AC from any 96 - 00 civic is IDENTICAL. The heater core itself is different but the evaporator is the same. Anyhow, this is the list of parts you will need from the donor car:

- Evaporator (the thing behind the glove box and you do not need to remove the entire dash to get to this part, just have to remove the glove box)
- all lines
- condensor with fan
- compressor
- in car wiring harness (you can see the harness which is plugged into the compressor and condensor fan....follow that and unplug it from the main engine harness) All civics are prewired for AC.
- 2 under hood fuse box relays (it will tell you which ones they are on the cover...i think there is one for the compressor and the condensor)
- Dryer (the little silver canister that is mounted on the driver side frame of the car but people strongly suggest to buy a new one when installing a new unit.
- the tension pulley off the mount
- and all the little nuts, bolts, mounts etc....make sure you keep them because they are ******* expensive to buy at honda.

Yes I will tell you the 96-00 A/C system is identical and it is just the Heater core which is different. My 96 civic dx hatch didn't come from the factory with A/C so I bought another member's A/C system on here, and it came from a 99 civic dx hatch and the evaporator fit and works perfect and the system is all the same for the 96-00. It is pretty easy to install, I just need to finish it if I ever get any time! Just remove the glove box and I had to remove the metal support bar where the glove box hinges bolt up to(to gain more access space) and then undo the heater duct box(it is just a plastic box connecting the heater blower to all the vents) then take out all the plugs that need to be removed in the fire wall and finish cutting out the dash mat that is in front of the holes, you also need to remove the battery, and I removed the tray to clean everything under the hood real good and then there is a plug for the evaporator box you need to plug in which is already in your factory wiring harness by the heat blower that is taped up and undo the tap and plug it in to the connection on the evaporator box, and you are good to go from there. The system is not that hard to install and all the lines plug in to the back of the evaporator on the fire wall under/behind the battery or battery tray and then just start putting everything back together, being careful not to get any thing in the lines and stuff or moisture. Then the wiring should all just plug in with the plugs already under the hood, and then finish everything else up and then you should have a good start on getting it almost done.
