Re: push start using cruise control button??? help
I have found that if a thief wants it, they will find it, and get it! If you really dont want it stolen, then get a garage. Even that isn't full proof. My good buddies car was stolen(mid day), and they came with a tow truck, and looked like they were repossessing it! A sneaky button won't stop that. But i do realize that is extreme. To the OP: there are a few kits out there that include an S2000 button. They come with instructions, so just use those, and switch the button out.

Even with a button, they can just hotwire it, or rip the button off and bypass the whole ignition circuit anyway.
You should get an engine disabling switch and an anti hotwire loop.
You can get an alarm system with all this for a few hundred, or for $500 you can get the Trident system with GPS and all kinds of ridiculousness.
None of this will prevent a tow away of course.

How about disconnecting the distributor or one of the spark plug wires? I know it's a PITA, but isn't it unlikely that the potential thief would carry a replacement wire of the right length?
Another, less subtle approach involves gunpowder, a pressure cooker, and an electrically triggered fuse. It will disfigure your car dramatically, but I guarantee that the thief will never steal another car

Another one of these useless juvenile suggestions. You do realize that anything that you rig to maim or kill a thief constitutes premeditation? Don't even joke about this stuff.

^^ you are right but please dont quote laws from a governmental website like some people do!
yo grumble. share with us your means of protection/disabling devices you personally use...
as well as the location the car is at as of now.

Re: push start using cruise control button??? help
I tuck it all behind the seats when I drive but if I park it somewhere i toss it upa bit if i'm really concerned.
My main anti theft system though is a Prestige alarm system with auto-arming locks, anti hotwire loop, engine disabler that activates when alarm goes off, and window break sensors.

Just a thought... Unplug the ECU and take it with you. It's a hassle, but it's free. That is unless they tow it like someone else said, but hey again it's free.

I just noticed OP hasn't said ANYTHING, so I guess he doesn't want to do this anymore.
OP, if you even lift, just take the battery, if not the ecu, you'll look completely normal walking into the bar with one in your had, just drop that on the bar stool next to you and grab a beer.

Re: push start using cruise control button??? help
Mine doesn't. My deterrence is an Autopage 2 way alarm, Shock sensor, glass break sensor, tilt sensor, backup battery all stealth installed. Car is dented, dirty, and needs paint. Some random stuff in the interior. No pics online and I don't tell people anything done to my car. Worked out for the past 2 years so far, people don't even begin to suspect my hatch has a GSR and suspension work.

What you have the correct solution, a good alarm system and a car that doesn't look like it needs to be stolen.
A trick my buddy in TX used on his Acura TL was to park his GF's van behind it.

Re: push start using cruise control button??? help
Sorry about the booby trap joke...
But seriously, I wonder if the car looking crappy really is a theft deterrent. My understanding is that most Civics/Accords are stolen for the parts. My car's book value is about 3k, but I'll bet you could get 5k worth of parts out of it. Peeling paint doesn't matter because they are going to repaint the parts anyway.
Alarm systems are useful if the car is parked at your house. But in the Newark airport lot (the #1 theft destination in the country), it would take an hour before anyone noticed.
