Hello,

my steering rack is leaking so i removed it from my 99 civic...
i bought the repair seal kit...

but now im not sure if i send to my mechanic or i try to do myself.. i want to do myself.. but i'm not sure if can . i already readed the process in the servicemanual a few times..

but im looking for some photos / diy / guide... haven't found anything here in HT.


Any help please?

I know this doesn't help but, when the end seal on a rack leaks, most people replace the rack. Have you looked in the service manual?

thankz for your reply RonJ, i hope others users help.. so we create information about this topic.. since there's nothing on the internet about it (steering rack rebuild)

i readed the procedures on the manual, but i have a few questions.
The manual pages are in the end of this reply.. for reference

I know in US its simple to replace the rack but here in brazil it's a little more expensive and harder to find.

My questions for now:

1) why drill this hole ?


2) I dont have the special tool 07NAD-SR3020A to remove the Cylinder End Seal... any ideas how to remove without doing some damage to the walls?

I know this thread's ancient. Wondering where the write-up is. Can't seem to find it. I always thought it was strange that there is a distinct lack of information on Civic Steering Rack Rebuilding.
