Re: Pros and cons
IMO your high gears are gonna put a strain on the motor in the long run. what are you lookin to do with this set up? racing or DD? LSV? need more info but the ls is a low revving motor and the b16 trans is a high revving tranny.

Re: Pros and cons
Sell the Si and get a GSR tranny. 5th gear is sorta low, but I was still able to get almost 48mpg on the interstate and I get about 37 city, with having a little fun. Get a quiet exhaust and you'll be good. You do about 3000rpms at 70mph.

Re: Pros and cons
shortest gears in any b series tranny. good for racing not for daliy.
if you put a ls 5th in the b16 it will do really good, and still have those short gears you want.
my buddy has one on his ls, and it sucks, i wouldnt reccomend it.
37city!?!? the fing crazy, i think i bearly get that on the highway!

Re: Pros and cons
^^ not only that. the rotating assembly is also the problem.
ls nor b20s were ment to rev 7000+
i have seen a ls spray its guts all the street due to the fact he turned a stock ls at 7900rpm.

Re: Pros and cons
^^why?? inless you bulid it your not going to gain anything.
ls is not a high reving motor, and makes almost no power in the high rpm range like the vtec b series engine that were desgined to rev over 7k rpms.
your wasting your money inless your going ls vtec.

Re: Pros and cons
You're matching a gear set to an engine that is entirely mis-matched. The LS is a longer stroke, lower revving engine which makes more torque down low and less power up top; therefore, it has a longer geared transmission.
The B16 on the other hand is a shorter stroke, torqueless, high-revver. It is matched to higher gearing in order to utilize its revs and mask its lack of torque. Putting the B16 transmission on the LS is going to give a snappy low end yet fall off in the upper RPMs. Highway driving is going to yield more stress and less gas mileage as well...
