proof that cam gears do work
Im tired of everyone saying that cam gears are worthless unless you have somewhat major modifications. well i have a book How to build honda horsepower. it has a shitload of dyno comparisons and here is one i found.
Its a b16 with stock cams. 94 octane. Fuel Pressure set at 41 PSI. I/H/E
b16 with bolt ons. 94 octane. fuel press at 41psi. and here are the results of the cam gears

ON a dyno with optimal conditions i can see them working but you arn't going to fell 2-5 hp on the butt dyno and if you can you have the most sinsitve *** eva.

Good stuff. But what if the cam gears are off 2deg?? 8) and the timming was being played with aswell.
I had an i/h/e setup with cam gears on the dyno and all i did was lose hp whenever i screwed with them... still not convinced ya need them with your basic i/h/e setup.

i can def see cams making a difference,
they basically move your powerband up or down,
and considering at wot, shifting at redline thru the gears... you actually never even see the lower rpms... so why should you care about that power!?
(well yeah it makes stop'ngo driving ez, but im talkin racin)

the problem with that is i hvae seen dyno's vary by 10 hp from one run to another without DOING ANYTHING to the car....you do not know what dyno that test was performed on
and yes cam gears do work!

it doesn't say whp..but..that's still pretty weird.

Yeah, but that's always to be expected with old motors.
BTW..if you have a B16..what does your username mean?
I hope your B18C isn't dyno-ing at 151hp. That's pretty bad.

Re: (B18CBungy)
You're just moving the powerband around. IMO, you're not really making more power, you're just shifting the power curve towards a higher RPM. Those numbers are worthless without the graphs though.
Let's see those graphs

Peak numbers don't necessarily mean anything.
Seeing the entire plot does mean something. It's usually better to tune for the benefit of the entire curve, not just the peak number.

exactly.i'm sure you can probably gain a few PEAK HP by playing with them a little, but you could very well be losing as much or more power other places on the graph.i've seen lots of articles on domestic vehicles having the stock cams being produced slightly off timing(like the keyway for the cam gear is machined up to a few degrees off from where it was intended to be),and correcting that can gain a few HP,but you're really only fine tuning back to where the OEM intended it to be to begin with.don't know if this is really an issue with Hondas or not.
cam gears can be very valuable by allowing you to tune in an aftermarket cam or to move around the powerband, but the i don't think a huge, wide power gain is really available with stock cams on a relatively stock motor.

cam gears are great for tuning your motor for the most under the curve power though. peak numbers really dont mean ****. you can tune your cams so that maybe you even loose a few peak hp but geain a good bit through the whole mid range.
id rather have more useable power under the curve than have bragging rights of a higher peak number any day of the week.

Maybe they forgot to mention that it was with the new AEM V2 intake that makes more power than your ordinary CAI (just look at their simulated race on theri webpage)....haha
How much whp do b16's normally make stock with no ac or ps?

151 on a b16 with i/h/e sounds about right. 162 would be about 20 over stock.
