project liftoff. NA z6 copycat project.
ok so im starting my Z6 na project much like emerika's here is the info. i plan to use p29 pistons with shot peened LS rods maybe z6 whichever i can get CHEAP. z6 head, comp 59300 camshaft(zex stage 2), thats pretty much it, i think it should be around 12:1 compression with that setup, no idea of horsepower estimates. i picked up the block last night, its just a bare block with crank and girdle. i will have pics up soon on my site following the whole buildup process. one question first there is a little nick in the block on the bottom edge of the number 1 cylender wall, im pretty sure that it will not affect the engine as a whole but im not entirely sure. can anyone spread some light on this for me? tnx.

doe it look like a rod nicked the cylinder?
u can have that ground out and polished to prevent any future fracturing.

ahh, sounds like a plan. ya it looks like a rod snapped and hit the cylinder on BOTH sides like this -O- where the -represent notches and the o is the cylinder. so i will just take it to a machine shop and have em grind it down a bit. tnx for the tip.
ps anyone got some p29 pistons and ls rods? if so pm me or post.

i actually wanted to copy the setup as well. i guess if you could document as much as possible it would help out alot of people. oh if you can add some of the machine cost that would help too.

i will try to do that as much as possiable, my boss builds racecar engines so he will probibly be helping me do most of the work, but the stuff he can't do i think he gets discounts on so like emerikas' these prices may be less than you might be able to get. tyr to get a hookup with someone who knows engines, you will learn a lot and maybe get cheap labor.

I am doing about the same buildup as Emerika (his brother built the head I am using), but I am using a6 pistons to yield a little safer of a compression ratio (11:1 on CA pee gas). z6 head port & polished, Crower springs, skunk2 retainers, a6 pistons and LS rods (probably shot-peened) in a y8 block. After that gets running nicely, I am going to add a nice shot of Zex to test the setup's limitations .

125 for crank grind seems spendy, at least compared to my kneck of the woods.
I remember paying 35 bucks for a crank grind on my first engine 4 years ago(small block 350), without any discounts....
I would look around and see if you can find one cheaper.
Looks like some nice SOHC projects coming up .
I should have run the A6 pistons myself....but we'll see how the A1's with some tuning do
