Default Project: D16/vtec

UPDATE: 3.27.2008 - Scroll and check it.

This is my project thread... I have an engine's class in school where we learn how to do EVERYTHING to your engine.. I decided I'd take advantage of it and do a small build on a D16.

Right now is just the strip down.. Don't get back to class for 2 weeks. I think this is going to be the first Spring break that I actually want to end rather then keep going. lol

On to the project:

Does anyone know what this is?
It looked like a filter of some sort, but we couldn't figure out what it was and I didnt' feel like looking it up. lol

This the color the Crank is supposed to be...

This is the color it was on Cylinder 1.

You can see metal scrap from the bearing on the crank here... Hopefully the crank is salvageable, but I doubt it will be.

Right now the engine is fully stripped... Didn't get any pictures of everything out, but I'll post more up after break... Sadly I won't be able to see the motor till after.

Holy need to change the oil more often, Batman. This looks like a fun project- and you'll get credit for it! Extra bonus for you!
That is part of your PCV system. For emissions and the like.

That's your oil breather box. It's part of the PCV system.

I bought the motor like this over the weekend. The guy said there was a knock in the motor so he swapped it out.

Luckly there isn't too much damage inside. With as much as that rod was knocking tho, I doubt the crank is salvageable, but we'll see what can happen.. If not, I'll just find a new one. lol

You both replied at the exact same time. lol

Thanks for the answers tho!

lol, it doesn't seem too hard yet.. I'm sure I could put it all back together right now and have it run the same it did when it was taken out, but the hole machining part is going to be interesting..

It shouldn't be too bad tho. I'm actually really excited to take off in it.

Only reason we have an engines class is because it's the Automotive Technology class... we have to know how to do this **** out in industry. lol I'm just taking advantage of the class right now.

dont use that rod haha. the box from the pcv relieves crank case pressure. do some oil pump work if you plan to run it. use honda bond or whatever you can on the 2 10mm oil pick up nuts.

go NA and run dee p29s yo

what do you mean oil pump work?

lol, she's going to be boosted... Eff n/a. My buddy is building one of my D15's. He's thinking about going n/a with that, but I think he's changing his mind soon. (he's got money to spend... That's why he's keeping the d15 instead of going to a 16.)

d16y7 and 8 oil pumps aint no good, i always de-burr and work whatever i can with what app. they need if they go with a y bottom. if your boostin do it regardless or youll work for nothin soon. only rods for a d15 that i know of if 700$. he might as well save money and go for a 1.6 bottom end

lol, I know... I've told him, but he's going to either buy thos rods or get a D15B crank so he can use the TT rods.

What kind of work needs to be done to the oil pump tho for it to be okay?

I think I'm going to get a new one anyways... My partner dropped it on the ground, and if they're faulty, I'm scared. lol

what tech school is this? For anyone interested Southwest Wisconsin Technical College offers a program in Performance Engine Machining. I think it's the only one in the state of Wisconsin geared specifically towards engine machining and not just your basic automotive technology program like every other tech school in wisconsin.

^^ or not.. I already have this bottom end, why not use it? I'm sure it'll be fine if I take care of it... It's not like i'm going to be racing the car all the time. With an oil pressure gauge I should be fine. If it really is a problem I'll wire up a warning tone or something.

MATC in madison. The class is for stock engine rebuilding, but the teachers know what we're interested in. lol

haha, yeah man.. this is the first time I've ever actually wanted spring break to be over so I could get back into it!!

Dude. Go back to school! lol. I know after I finish the automotive degree I'm going to go back in for something completely different. Being a technician really isn't something I want to do. Fun to know, not fun to apply. lol

They have EVERYTHING that we need too. It's sweet because everything on the motor will be done by my hands. I think that's cool. Kinda scary, but sweet. lol
