Problems with Motor
I have a 92 civic hatchback with a 99 GSR Swap, today I was driving about to take my friends brother to work, I knew I had barely any gas but I tried to pick up his brother before getting gas to save a trip but it ended up dieing on his street, I made it to his driveway and went to the gas station after. when i came back and put gas in the car the battery was dead because I left the keys in it with the radio on(stupid me) anyways, we jump started the car it took a long time to recharge up the battery and the car started to crank, it struggled to start after a few tries but it finally started; but it could barely stay on and it was idling harshly, i have no muffler on the car and it was backfiring like crazy, even if i floored the gas it wouldnt get over 2.5k, the only way to keep the car on was to keep pressing the gas. We checked the sparkplugs nothing wrong there, we check the fuel injectors they are good. My friends dad says its possibly the Distributor,Cam timing, or the spark plug timing, i have no idea can some one please help me out? also no C.E.L, car was not beaten it, it just ran out of gas.

Re: Problems with Motor (colombian linx)
Check the Dizzy and rotar...coil...I dont think it would be the timing, unless you messed with it or something to do with the timing. MAY BE spark plugs...if not gapped right...could be fuel filter could be a few things. i dont think your fan has a damn thing to do with your cars idle.

Re: (colombian linx)
when you ran the car out of gas you would have also sucked up all the crap in your gas tank into the fuel pump filter sock. Pull your pump out and have a look and clean it as needed or better yet replace it with a new clean one.

Well being a "fuel pump filter sock" would suggest that it's attached to the fuel pump. Lift your back seat up and you'll see the fuel pump access panel, open it and pull the fuel pump out...you'll see it.

check the plugs you can do this buy pulling it and leaving it on the wire and grounding the end of the spark plug onto something metal if you see a spark between the prong thingy its good.

You have to look at the problem logically. If the car ran fine before it ran out of gas but not after, then it can only be a fuel problem. Fuel may move through the system as you pointed out but the filter sock could be plugged enough where fuel will flow enough to start the car but not enough to keep it running. Like I said before, physically pull the pump out and have a look. All the other things people are mentioning to check is simply irrelevant if the car ran out of gas and had no problems before it did. It literally is as simple as that!

Re: (colombian linx)
Does it start on its own or do you have to jump it every time you try and start it?? I highly doubt it's a clogged fuel pump or fuel filter. It sounds more like an electrical problem, but I could be wrong.
I would try a different battery first and go from there. Why check the battery?? What for sytem did you kill the battery with and how long did you leave it on for? I once let my system on for 8hrs. drained the battery pretty good and it never was the same after that.
What for alternator are you running on your car and what king of shape is it in? If your alternator is taking a crap and you battery is dead, the car isn't going to run right at all. So, if you put a good battery in it and if runs OK. you know that you need a new battery and alternator.
Just my thoughts though. I would also recheck your ground connections too.

Re: (colombian linx)
Glad to see you fixed you problem.
Make sure it's not the cam seal/plug, they usually leak. It's the seal right behind the vtec solenoid valve. Good luck

Re: (colombian linx)
most likely from a power surge from jumping the car. its normally better to ground the two cars together through the chassis instead of using the negative terminal from the battery, and just hook up the positive terminals. still jump starting can be bad, can kill battery cells and diminish the life of the battery itself or even blow the voltage regulator of the alternator.

Everytime my battery goes dead I never jump start it using another car, I always kick start it by pushing it down the road and jumping in putting it in gear and dumping the clutch. This is easy for me to do myself b/c I'm a pretty big guy.
