Problems with 94 delsol b16a3, exhaust in car and rough idle
Hey everyone, thanks for your time. I have a 1994 Civic Del Sol with 217926 miles on it. It has the B16A3 motor, but I have had some problems recently and I feel they may be related.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I was using the car for work and would like to get it going asap. Thanks!
- Exhaust is coming into the car from the vents
- It has a rough idle, and often idles pretty high, around 13k to 12k rpms
- It has "stalled out" on me multiple times, where it seems to fail to idle and shudders as the rpms drop to 0
- After said stalling, it will turn over but does not seem to be getting fuel. Eventually while pressing the accelarator I can get it to start, but the problem has been getting worse, it has been getting harder to restart the car
- The battery and alternator seem to be fine
- I have noticed what seems to be an oil leak but can't seem to find it
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I was using the car for work and would like to get it going asap. Thanks!

Is the check engine light on? If not, does the check engine light come on then off when you start the car (normal)? Or does it never come on? Do you know the service history, have you had it long?

No, the check engine light is not on. It does flash on and then off when I start the car. I've had the car since 160k and its at 217k now. I think I'm overdue for a timing belt replacement but other than that I've made sure to get the oil changed every 3000 miles. I replaced the fuel filter at about 165k, and have gotten a valve (something in the fuel system) replaced about 15k ago, along with spark plugs and wires, but other than that I've had no issues

-Find the exhaust leak
-Do the standard cleaning of the sensors on the intake manifold (mainly iacv), bleed the coolant system.
-When was the last the time coil/ignitor/distributor was serviced?
-What side of the motor is the oil leaking? Passenger side will most likely be from vtec solenoid or dizzy o-ring. Driver's side most likely cam seals. Its not that hard to find where the oil is coming from. Clean everything off, check same or next day and it should be easy to find.

Re: Problems with 94 delsol b16a3, exhaust in car and rough idle
is it a fuel smell if so check for leaks
it can be with the stating problem is you fuel pump prime every time when you try an start it if its not priming every time even if car don't start check main relay could be why its hard to start some times mine did this
high idle check iacv/idle screw /tps if its a .5v at close an 4.5 at wot an try cleaning throttle body
also try messing with you idle screw an see if idle drops to where it needs to be
now for the fun part
check your timing
check your plugs/wires/cap/rotor for good spark
check fuel pressure
check your valve lash .006-.007 intake .007-.008 exhaust
see if any of this helps

The starting problem could be your fuel pump. Does it prime every time when you try an start it if its not priming every time even if car don't start. Check main relay could be why its hard to start some times. Mine did this
