Default problem shifting into 1st gear

shifting from a complete stop into first gear is becoming a problem. it's like something is blocking the shifter from going into 1st gear.
my 99 civic dx has all of it's scheduled maintenance performed by honda and I change my oil every two thousand miles. This problem started happening recently and my car only has 57,000 miles. what could be causing this problem?

mine does this too! I have just got used to it but I would like to know what it is, thought it was the shift linkage but it is all good so im not sure. Signs of a worn tranny maybe.

Yep, that's what I did. I'm going to change the syncro for my 5th gear since it grinds. I'm going to have them check it out to confirm what it could be in 1st gear.

I always had a problem shifting in reverse, but I was told by friends that civics are all like that.
but not being able to shift into first is starting to worry me, I really hope that it's not the transmission.
I guess it's a myth that honda trannys are super strong and able to handle large amounts of boost

Have you tried changing your tranny oil yet? It will probably help some if you already havnt done that.

Broken 1-2 shifter fork.

Happens.

Bet $1,000 thatyou downshifted hard into first and snapped the leading edge of the fork off. Yank it and send the sucker to the Great Mr. Bone.

Stick

When I threw a B16 tranny against his GSR engine....ad trouble shifting into first for about 20 miles....then it went in fine.

How about going into 2nd, and then into first....I bet that works fine
