Problem with replacing motor

Problem with replacing motor
So I replaced the motor on my 99 civic dx because the block was blown. I put another dx motor in there, connected all wires except the power steering connecter, the ground that goes on the thermostat and the oil pressure sensor. I had finished for the day because it was getting really cold over here in MA, so the last thing I did was connect the battery [mind you that i had taken it out a day ago and left it on the ground next to the car]. Now I tried to crank the car but only the cluster lights will go on and no crank..I put the code scanner on the car and the scanner turns on without the key being turned..The code scanner read "no link". Is that because the battery could possibly be dead? Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Problem with replacing motor
Mind you i had to put the old distributor back in because the connection fromt he distributor that came with the new motor did not fit my old wiring harness, but everything else did.

Re: Problem with replacing motor
sounds like you either have the valve cover ground off, or the tranny ground off. or possibly both. your symptoms are pretty common for a ground problem though
