Default PRoblem with ObD2 IN MY EG p28

I'm trying to figure out which computer runs best with my B18C1.

this is the setup

92 si
B18C1(OBD2)
P28(not chipped)

The question is, is anyone running their EG with an OBD2 engine and no CEL(without taking the CEL bulb out).

All .02 cents are welcome except search

Neither of those ecu's are good for your set-up.

Either chip the p28 or get an obd1 p72.

Not if you have everything hooked up properly (vtec solenoid, oil pressure switch, knock sensor, and IAB).

Are you getting a CEL right now?

If so, with what ecu?

All I have to do is hook up the IAB and Knock sensor? correct?

Am I missing something?

Yes and i'm using P28(not chipped)

but I know that the IAB won't work with that ECU

Yes, since your car is an si, you should only have to wire in the KS and IAB.

That wont cause a CEL, cause the p28 is not even looking for the IAB(or the KS).
So you have a problem somewhere else.

I'd pull the code and see what it is.

the engine is out the car right now, i'm trying to figure this stuff out before I put the engine back in.

I can't check the codes at the moment, but if I put a P72 in the car and hook the IAB and KS. It shouldn't throw any codes even though it's an OBD2 engine with OBD1.

OK, I see.

You can run an obd2 motor with an obd1 ecu.
Right now I'm running a '98 b18c5 in my car('92 cx) using an obd1 p28(chipped).

Do you have the gsr engine harness, as well?
If so, use it.
It will plug directly into your civic main harness. Then you only need to run 2 wires from the shock tower to the ecu.

Why r u not using a P73?

Is your CEL light?

The harness you're talking about is the harness connected to the engine or the one that goes inside the car?

Its too much work to convert over to obd2. Not only would I need to do all the extra wiring in the engine bay, but I'd also need the obd1-obd2 jumper harness. Just not worth it, imo.
Besides, the chipped p28 actually runs it better.

No CELs.
If you look around on this board, you will see that alot of people are running this combination.

Im talking about the harness that connects to the engine.
If you have the obd2 integra engine harness, you can use it. It will plug directly into your obd1 civic main harness(the one that goes inside the car). Then just run the two wires(IAB, KS) and plug in your obd1 ecu, and your ready to go.

So what do you suggest I get, P28 chipped or OBD1 P72

There are pros and cons to using the chipped p28.
Cons:
-The p28 does not operate your IAB, so your intake manifold butterflies wont work.
You can, however, make it so they stay open all the time.
Or you could invest in a skunk2 manifold down the road.
-Most of the chipped P28s that I have have seen have a redline no lower than 9K.
So you'll have to be careful that you dont over rev the motor, until you upgrade your valvetrain.

Pros:
-Agressive fuel maps and timing make more power
-Lots of chips available like JUN, spoon, mugen, skunk, etc
-Since the p28 doesnt look for the IAB or KS, you dont need to wire them in.
If you have the integra harness, you can simply plug everthing in and go. No wiring.

Which ecu you use is up to you.
