Default Problem diagnosis help!!!

My buddy has a 99 ek coupe with a b18 motor swap. A while back he replaced the starter, now all of a sudden a few weeks ago the car will not start with the key, he must place the key and turn the key into start position, then take a wire and touch the positive side of the battery and the other side to the starter. That is the only way the car will start. What could cause this? What should I look for when trying to fix this? Fuse?

Another problem is that his clutch makes a sound like a dying dog, kinda like "cheeeeeekeeayyyy" when starting from a dead stop. The clutch is loose all the way to the bottom where there is a half inch or less of engagement, its an aftermarket stage3 or something clutch. He has to add brake fluid almost every two days or so. Would this be the master clutch cylinder and the slave clutch cylinder that are causing these problems?

Thanks to all.
