I have a 96 civic LX, I got my timing belt changed along with the water pump. after it getting changed the mechanic said that my fans don't work, he said it could be because its cold outside, he also said check the water pump for any leaks. I've also read that it could be a fuse, but does anyone here know what fuse it is?

just check both (underhood and underdash) fuse box's. Check the wires that go to the fan and that the ect sensor is hooked up.

I don't have the cover for the underdash fuse box it got ripped out. I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to engine work and stuff, I don't even know how to check the water pump for leaks, I know it suppose to be attached to the side of the engine but I don't even know where to locate it. Anybody with help?

waterpump should be by the alternator on the right side of the engine. well, atleast it is on my 94 hatch.

okay well I checked the fuse under the hood and its fine. So Now I'm really stuck, why won't my cooling fan and radiator fan come on? I mean i drove my car like 3-4 miles and it didn't over heat... but it was really cold outside, so I don't know?

any help guys?

its probabl;y one of the relays for it. or its jus t so damn cold they dont need to turn on..

When my fan didn't come on I had a bad sensor. Its the sensor where your thermostat is. I do not know what its called [maybe coolant temp sensor?]. As soon as I replaced that my car stopped overheating at idle and the fans kicked on like normal.

okay, cool I have some progress now, so pretty much there are 3 options of what the problem can be..

1) Bad Cooling Fan Relays, replacement?
2) Bad Cooling Fan temperature switch?
3) Bad Coolant temp sensor?

can anybody help me narrow this down?

right now if you live in seattle washington I don't think your coolig fan is going to run its just to dam cold out there. Hell even in the middle of summer it takes 5 or 6 mins to have the fan run if the car is parked. If you are not overheating I wouldn't worry about it now. The only thing I could think of to test it would be to park the car in a heated area that is in the 70's then run the car until it is up to temp and watch to make sure it doesn't over heat and the fan turns on MAKE sure to vent the exhuast gas outside
