the check engine light on my 95 honda civic is on. according to the codes on my ecm? ( i think that is what it is called) there is something wrong with the Primary oxygen heater sensor. What is this? How can i fix this?

here is some background information. I changed the headgasket, but for some reason the car would not start. I had a lot of trouble changing the distributor, but i finally got that sucker off. A plastic piece came flying off one of the connectors from the distributor but i put it back on. the car started but the check engine light came on and would not turn off. I unplugged the negative battery cable for 30 seconds but the check engine light is still on.

If you didnt fix the problem, of course the light came back on...

Check the resistance on the o2 sensor heater wires (the black ones) - Spec is 10-40 ohms
Im sure its not that, however.
Replace the sensor with a DENSO or NGK unit (nothing else) from http://www.sparkplugs.com or http://www.oxygensensors.com
(Do NOT under any circumstance, buy a bosch o2 from the parts store...)

I'm curious as to why everyone rags on the bosch o2 sensors, its cycles faster than any other o2 sensor I have seen.

All you can really do is check to make sure the heater is intact (resistance check like he said) and that power and ground are both intact for the heater circuit. Otherwise find a replacement.

Buy one
When it craps out in about a month and needs to be replaced again, you'll know why.
Theyre consistant with an excedingly short life-span

I have one thats the only reason i said anything, and its been cycling perfect for the past 3 years.

Until I really hear some bad rap about it I think I will continue to use them. If you can link me to something that does, please do so, I'd like to know so if it comes time to replace it again it doesn't die in 3 months.

Hey, anybody wanna clue me in on what the **** the O2 sensor HEATER is?

just that
a heating element inside the o2 sensor
works like a standard light bulb, with a filament that is charged via the 2 black wires

hence "primary heated oxygen sensor"

im having the same problem. i just put a new 02 sensor in. but the actual wire harness plug on my car was ripped out. i looked at another gsr and put all the wires back in the plug. can anyone post a pic of the wires in the right places so i know how to do mine?
