A shortam on its own with a stock exhaust system is what i mean, I want that mean sound / power gain when I rip it, if thats clear enough to understand.

If you're looking for noise, nothing will be more intimidating than a piece of window screen clamped around your nekkid throttle body. Then again, that will only really aid the high rpm power output of your engine and probably steals some low end torque.
Oh, and you shouldn't be nearly as concerned with the noise output of your Honda as with getting good gas mileage, as that is what the cars are created for. Loudass Civics are like the drunk, loudmouth pencildick at the bar: annoying and looking to prove something to anyone who will listen.

I have an AEM short ram on a 97 civic ex. When I first got it, it would make a loud sucking/hissing noise at 3000 rpm and higher. Now, I only hear the sucking above 5000 rpms. Maybe I got used to the sound or my filter is dirty (My first wash I washed with a hose aimed at the outside pushing the dirt deeper into the filter ) However, my exhaust took on a different note at all rpms and engine sounds louder at all rpms.
I could care less about the noise, but heatsoak is a major issue with this intake for me in the southern US. Bog is so bad below 3000 rpms its just stupid. My car just makes so much noise and Im barely moving and then I shoot forward. There is a stronger pull at high rpms which is practically useless for daily driving.
