Default power to weight ratio

ok, so all day i see ppl on this forum driving hatches because they are light and guttin their cars to lose weight and all that, so what im wondering is, just how much does weight come into play?, does neone have like some hard numbers of 1/4 mile times when theyre car weighed x amount and then after the lost some weight?, is it really worth losing some of the comfort items in a car?, i doubt i will strip my car reguardless but i was just wonderin about this stuff, ne info would be great

Rule of thumb 100 lbs = 1 tenth in the quarter mile...could be a bit more

i wouldn't completely rely on that because as you lose more weight its effect on the power/weight ratio rises exponentially. So basically losing 200 lbs. off of a 2800 lb. car isn't gonna make as big of a difference as losing 200 lbs. off of a 2000 lb. car.

ive heard the 100=1 tenth thing before but for me it all comes down to handling and the lighter you can get your car the faster you can corner and get on the gas again. so it makes even more of a difference if you roadrace your car.
