I searched and didn't really come up with much.

I recently bought a CX and I'm not used to not having power steering. I have a friend who is willing to trade me racks if I want power steering.

The question is, what are the benefits of not having power steering other than having better feeling of the car at highway speeds? Those of you who do autocross or road course racing, do you have power steering?

I don't know if this helps or not, but I don't do autox. I do have a hard suspension on and I do some hard cornering. I do fine without it, and I have a much heavier car than you do. The only difference may be if you are small. I am close to 6 feet tall and weigh over 200 lbs.

From anyone that I know that has a cx, you really don't need it. The cars aren't that heavy and not having power steering takes even less weight off.

*edit* I have a friend with a pretty similar setup on his cx minus the suspension and he he only weighs about 140 and he doesn't have p/s. Hasn't complained a day since he got his car.

I'm about the same height and weight as you actually. The car is bone stock so maybe some better tires and suspension will make it easier to get used to it. Thanks for the help though.

It does, it gives less road feel . It still does a little, but it is not very noticible at all.

Well it would add weight, which does you no good. You have a relatively short wheelbase which basically eliminates any real need for power-steering.

I had a CRX for a two years, if its awkward to you know, just give it a couple months. You wont notice it eventually.

ive had a cx with no power steering, fine if the car is moving, sucks in parking lots, and pulling out between two cars when parked on the side walk. or doing a 3 point turn.

now i have an si with power. much better ofcoarse. but i wouldnt waste the time tearing down and swapping arms, let alone adding stuff to the engine such as the pump.

too much work for me for better steering.

power steering= one hand turns at dead stop

none power= two hand HARD turning at dead stop

Thanks, that linked helped me. I didn't see if when I searched.

This car is going to be my daily driver and I'll be going to college with it and I'm sure I'm going to have to parallel park often.. that is what I'm really thinking about.

i think if you want to do autocross it would probably benefit your times to have power steering... power steering may not do anything above 15mph for some people... but when youre taking turns you can really feel it... like on freeway ramps that connect to another freeway and its those circle turns that are sharp... yeah... you can really feel it without powersteering when going 60mph... you have to fight the steering.... with power steering you just turn the wheel and dont even feel how much force youre really putting on the car...

i removed power steering from my car, but i dont do autocross... if i did, i would have PS :D

i removed the belt for a couple of days just to see what its like and u can definatley feel the road better but i like the luxery of 1 hand steering. unless your 5'1" or a girl i dont see how it would be a problem. just give it a couple of weeks and youll get use to it

Thats another good point. It builds a bit of muscle somewhere in the arms. Like I said, after so long, you just dont notice it anymore.
