Power steering rack or manual rack?
Which steering rack weighs less... the manual rack or the power rack ? Or are they the same? I don't want power steering regardless.
EDIT : Is there a difference between the two in ratios and lock to lock travel?

They would have the same parts inside though, wouldn't they? The manual rack just wouldn't have fittings on it... or is there more to it than that?

im pretty sure there is a difference in the lock to lock ratio but i dunno if there are more parts involved... my reasoning for the power rack weighing more was just cause of the fittings and small misc junk on em

Yes there is a difference lock to lock between the two racks. They are different internaly. I belive they also use different tierods. As for weight I do not know. The manual rack has less effort and a extra 1/2 turn lock to lock. (I believe 1/2, may be 1/4, been a while since I checked) The power steering rack is higher effort even without the pump, but is a quicker ratio. If you want the quickest ratio get the manual rack, and the quiafee conversion. That makes it a 1/4 turn quicker than a power rack. I havent used this setup yet. The only time in, day to day driving, a power rack without the pump seems to be a problem is parking. But even my girlfriend can handle it. I just finished the evolution school (Solo) and one of my instructer mentioned my steering was a little to stiff for tight slaloms.

I know I almost considered it when I re did my steering this year. But decided against it for a few reasons. First of all my steering is already stiff for parking, and I do still have to drive it daily Two energy suspensions steering bushings are for the power rack(better feel) Three my power box was still fine, just everything else was worn out.

are we talking straight box, or with the hoses and pumps?

PS
and of course there is a difference lock to lock... It also depends which rack you are talking about. you know there is more than one right?
ITR PS rack> ALL

how would that work? al the racks should have a set ratio, the ITR is just the closest (least turns lock to lock).
The 00-01 ITR and the 00-01 GSR racks are the same though...
I love my P/S

Not sure but I know it is used on NSX and 02Civic SI, but they use an electric assist so it is much easier to do.
How many turns lock to lock is the Type R?

My 92 power rack is 3 1/4. That extra 1/4 would be nice for slaloms, but then I would have to install power steering again. That would be realy stiff without for parrallel parking. Its good to know though, my past searching seemed to say that the type R rack was 3 1/4 as well.
