Default Power Steering Pump

Looks like all the Si models came with power steering. Can this be removed or is that a bad idea? I dont care for the pump and all that crap.

Bad idea. Removing the pump doesn't give you the feel of having a non-powered car from the factory. It will be even harder to steer.

^^Wrong.

If you remove the belt only (i.e. half *** it), it will be difficult to steer the vehicle since you will be fighting the fluids still in the steering rack.

You must drain the steering rack, loop the lines, and the re-fill while removing the pump and all the other stuff. I have been riding without P/S in my 99 EX for about 2 years with no problems. There are DIY guides on how to this if you search around a bit.

Sorry. But everyone seems to disagree from everything else I've read. No one says you cannot ride around like this but the consensus seems to be it still is not the same as having NO power steering from the factory.

It really isn't the same as having a manual rack, the ratios are different between a manual and power rack.

A power rack actually has a tighter ratio. You can remove the pump and just loop the lines. But it's critical you have a breather tube/reservoir for the open lines so the oil has somewhere to go. You don't want to close the system.

A good alternative is getting a power steering pump from an MR2 that is electrical, run it off of the fuse box as a high amp accessory.

Why would you NOT want power steering? After AC it's the single best accessory imho - Back to thread :-)
