Default Potential new Civic owner

Hi all.
There's a civic SiR i'm going to look at on saturday. Its a 2000 with 39000 km going for $15800 (cdn). Is this a decent deal?
Also, I have reasons to be suspicious this car is stolen. The same guy (I remember the number) sold a 2001 GSR for $16500 a while ago, and I pretty much banged my head on the wall for missing out on that one. But he claimed to be moving and thats why he had to sell it so fast, yet its about one month later and he still hasnt moved and is selling another sporty vehicle so quickly. What kind of precautions can I take to ensure the vehicle is legit?
I'm a newbie car buyer

I'm not 100% on everything that needs to be checked out.
#1. VIN on door and dash match
#2. vehicle history info....match the guy's name with his ID to see its it him

What else can be done to prevent myself from buying a stolen vehicle?

does the vin on the motor match the one on the dash and door? also make sure he has a title

Also people buy and sell honda's so fast it ain't funny it is a good way to make money buy it on the auction for 8k put 300 bucks in it to fix blemishes and what not and then sell it for 15k it is that simple and a very easy way to make buku bucks if you have the capital up front to do it.

if you're talking about salvage auctions, then its not that simple.

be sure to check for a salvage title. for that price it better be clean. i'm guessing that's why he's selling all these nice cars; he probably buys them from salvage acutions and rebuilds them.

no he prolly don't buy from a salvage auction i have seen at public auto auctions the ones where you have to pay to get in a 00 Civic Si CLEAN TITLE go for 8k out the door and i can gaurentee you that he made hella money off that thing the car had about 50k on it All stock.

did it have any kind of damage at all? body or anything? anyway, i can still get them cheaper than that. my bro in law rebuilds salvaged cars for a living, it costs him 6-7k for one with a full body kit, 17's, i/e, dropped, etc. sell it for $12k and instant $$. some work involved with that kind of stuff though; you gotta be good at body work and what not.

this wasn't a salvaged car this car had a CLEAN TITLE and stock cars go for more money than poorly and untastefulley modded cars around here, i wouldn't pay 10 bucks for an Si that has an ugly body kit, 17's stereo and i/e.

i guess there are enough rich kids around here to buy these cars. its not some ghetto-rigged **** though, he puts his cars together better than any shop around here could. stock-looking gaps, high-quality paint, etc. try selling a salvaged stock civic and a salvaged fixed-up civic at the same time. he's selling a stock 00 si, salvage title, for $10k for his cousin. it's been at the dealer's lot since august. it takes 1-2 weeks to sell a body-kited, 17'd, salvaged si for $12k.

body kits and rims aren't tranny and engine mods. the only "engine" stuff he ever does is short ram intake and muffler. kids like the vrooom noise .
