possible to use 4 wire o2 on HX ECU?
hi i was just wondering if it is possible to rewire the engine harness for a civic hx to make it work with a standard 4 wire oxygen sensor.
i did some research and theres some people who claim to make it work for a civic vx......
im just wondering if it could be done for an hx
i dont mind if it throws off some random codes for random stuff... as long as the gas saving portion of the o2 is working

no you will need to run the 5 wire o2 sensor for your 5 speed. The cvt does use a 4 wire but you would have to convert everything over over to that and it will be a huge pain and the cvt is not that good of a transmission and doesn't hold up well.
It's $358.96 at Majestic Honda and I think I remembered it being in the $330 range so it seems like it's gone up some. I remember someone on here awhile back taking a universal bosch and repining the connector to make it work.
RonJ might remember he seems to know almost everything but I think there is a problem with hx's for the o2 sensor code that if it's not the the actual o2 sensor then you need to check the wiring or replace the ecu, I am fairly certain that was it. I know the hx's were shipped out with a lot of bad ecu's and my 97 got replaced under their extended emissions warranty that was 10yr/150k miles.
Also another common problem is the exhaust manifold cracks at the #3 runner right around the o2 sensor allowing it to read different readings so you might want to remove the shield and check for any cracks.

Nope Vtec E need the 5 wire wide band O2 because they are tuned and designed to run really lean safely to increase mpgs. I have a Hx and did a lot for research as to what tuning and option the D16Y5 had and there s nothing out there for it. Not ECU tuning, no cams, no turbo kits because of tuning. I just swapped out for a B18 and opened a new universe of tuning options. Even a D16Y8 or the non Vtec Y7 is better than the Y5 in terms of making more power. Or you could swap a Y8 head on, bolt on swap and use a Ex harness and ECU due to the 5 wire O2.

There were 1 or 2 people on here that has had turbo hx's so it is possible just a big pain to do so. I know it's not cheap and I don't think I would trust a used one either, it's hard but I would just bite the bullet and get it from majestic since they are the cheapest I've found being new oem.
The dealer also replaced mine at one point under warranty.
