Possible transmission problem?
I own a 1996 Civic EX, recently I have noticed when I am accelerating the rpms seem to being going a bit high. I do not attempt to accelerate a lot, just a "normal" amount and the rpms are hitting almost "4".
Also, I noticed when I turn off my A/C it emits a short high pitch squeaking noise...???
Obviously I don't know anything about cars and I wanted to find out some info before I spend money at a mechanics. Any advice would be great.

i'm taking it your tranny is an automatic. it seems about right to shift at about 4K. try replacing your tranny fluid, it should help alittle with quieter and smoother shifting. make sure you get Honda transmission fluid.

chances are your belt needs adjustiing or replacing. i would inspect the belt for dry rotts and/or cracks. if good, i would adjust it before replacing.
these are both easy maintanence step that you can do with basic tools. a repair manual wouldn't hurt.

if it is a mual transmission i would almost be positive that your problem is your clutch if automatic and it feels like it is slipping i would try a torque converter or a fluid change the air conditioner proble is most likely a belt try a new belt or some belt dressing first to see if that wont quiet it down
