im dropping a 97 b20 vtec on my cx hatchback and i was wondering if i can use the harness from an em1?? i am going to make it obd 1 to tune with hondata, but i heard it was plug and play if i decided to use that harness, or should i just wire the vtec on my cx harness?

some one told me one time that to use the stock wire harness and just run a vtec wire. i know when you do lsvtec u use the ls harness and run a vtec wire. y im not sure i was told its easier.

cant use your cx harness you need a b series harness....

as long as each wire from the ecu hits where its supposed to , and the proper plug for each sensor is used , your in. its that simple. get wiring diagrams , and study the differences for yourself between the different harnesses.

NO!!! You cannot use a 99-00 Si harness on a 96-98 Civic of any model or engine. Sure it will fit on the actual motor but you will be missing 1 of the 3 plugs for the ecu, and the 2 that are still there have some pins rearranged. Technically the car would start, but will run like total garbage and throw many codes. I have tried it.

Also can't use OBD1 Civic or any Teg harness in 96-up Civics, they stop at the shock tower.

Best choice is a 96-98 EX 5-spd engine harness, it has all the connections you need and just needs some branches lenghtened to reach some of the sensors.

thx for the input guys....but i was told by a member in ht that if i ran the si harness i had to change the wiring in my dash since the pins were diffrent. i dont know if thats true, but i was just pondering since i had a si harness in my basement which is just collecting dust!!

Ya bro misinformation from you as well, read the title of the post he has a 99 CX not a 96-98. To answer your question yes the 99-00 Si B16a2 or 99-00 Ex D16y8 harness would be your best bet. I actually have a 99 Cx also and I'm using the 99-00 Si harness on a 98 lsvtec motor with a obd2 to obd1 conversion harness with a chipped p28

well if your using a b16 head then of course, if it is a gsr head with stock gsr intake you might have to extend some but i doubt it, so ya

Sorry I slightly misread before when you said 97 I thought you meant that was the year of your car. If your CX is a 99 or 00 then the 99-00 Si harness will work perfectly fine and should require no modifications unless you have non-OBD2 injectors you might need to splice the appropriate clips on there.

so other than the injector clips, everything should pretty much be plug and play. I have an odb1 gsr dizzy which is 2 plugs and the obd II is 1 plug so is there anyway i can still use it by splicing the wires? ive been looking for an obd2 dizzy but i cant find one since they are so hard to come by...

Why go through all that trouble swapping harnesses, when you can just add new wires for vtec and the knock sensors? Well, it’ll look better if you swap the harnesses out but it’ll be much more simpler to do just that…reuse your cx harness and extend whatever wires needed and add whatever else that is needed…good luck man…

You got a couple options: if you have your original CX distributor you can gut the electrical stuff out of it and install it in the GSR dizzy then you will have the single OBD2 plug. Or, you can lop off the single dizzy plug from whatever harness you use and splice on the 2-plug OBD1 setup. If you do #2 let me know I can get you the harness plugs. I think it's the same number & color of wires so splicing isn't too hard just do it right with solder and shrink tubing.

so basically i can reuse my old cx dizzy plug and solder it to my si harness and i should be good to go....thx for your help guys i was really confused but now i have a good idea of what i need to do!! ht is the best thing know to man

you still got it wrong bud, read some more, your CX dizzy has a small plug, you need to get a hold of any OBD2 B series or 96-98 civic (bigger) dizzy plug

Well I plugged a 99-00 Si dizzy directly into a 98 CX harness no issues and no plug changing. So what models are different besides that I don't know but it worked for me.
