Possible new motor?
I'm thinking of picking up a LS from a shop that was taken out when they installed a GSR into a guys teg. The compression is 180 across and just clicked 100k. I can get the whole longblock for 275. Sound like a good idea or should I pass? The engine would have new gaskets and all the normal stuff(h20 pump, timing belt,etc...) replaced while I would be picking up the rest of the stuff for the swap. Some suggestion cause he had it listed higher but the shop is only an hour away so he said if I can and picked it up he'd give it to me for 275 from how much he originally listed it for. It's either the LS or a 89 2dr golf for $300 for a winterbeater.

sounds like a good deal.. you will still need a tranny for the long block..
and its always nice to have a beater to drive around if you can afford the insurance on it aswell..
what kind of car and motor do you have now?

Re: Possible new motor? (Hybrid95CivicEX)
I have a 92 dx hatch with a y7 with just i/h/e. I have a turbo kit just waiting to go on thats why I was looking at the golf to use while I worked on the hatch. Though 275 for the ls is very tempting. If I got the LS I'd take my time and bought things I really wanted for it and not stuff just to get it on the road and then have to buy the stuff later again. Agghhh, so many decisions and not enough brain cells.
