Default Possible computer problem??? PLEASE HELP

OK so my 2000 EJ8 coupe auto stopped running correctly the other day, my engine is fine i thought it was a trans problem because all of a sudden i didn't have 1st and 3rd gear. I took it to a trans shop expecting the worst but he took it apart and found nothing at all wrong with the trans.. So now its sitting at my uncles shop and waiting to be fixed only i have no idea what it is. I do have a bad O2 sensor behind the cat but i seriously don't think thats it. They primarily serviceb domestics so they're not extremely up on the honda computers but it seems that is the problem. Is it the computer, faulty wiring somewhere, a speed sensor, etc....??

any help would be greatly appreciated!
the main symptoms of my cars' sickness are:
-No 1st or 3rd gear
-Rough when shifting between reverse and drive/D2
-no spedometer
-odometer doesn't register miles either(this symptom isn't so bad)

its still driveable but i'm not commuting with only 2nd and 4th gears

Save me HT, Your my only hope!
haha, Thanks in advance
-Nate

This doesn't sound like a computer issue at all IMO.

Did they check the shift likage, synchros etc to make sure it actually goes into gear when shifted into 1st or 3rd?

Yea shift linkage and synchros aren't it. BTW its an automatic and i had a guy take apart the tranny and he didn't find any problems. It's been over a week with no diagnoses from a few shops. Any other ideas to look into? I'm afraid to take it to the dealers becase they'll charge me more than the car is worth

Is the CEL ON or the dash D4 light blinking? If so, jumper wire the service connector and pull the codes from the ECU.

Given that the speedo and odometer don't work, you probably have a bad vehicle speed sensor (VSS) atop the transmission, which needs input from this sensor to know when to shift gears.

Yea i got the codes, It gave me 4 different codes, 2 were for the 2nd O2 sensor, which i then relplaced(this was an already known problem i was neglecting to replace because it went bad and im poor haha), then those 2 codes went away. The other two looked to be for solinoids on the tranny, i forget the numbers and i'll repost them as soon as i can find them (there written down somewhere).

I think you might have a good point about the speed sensor though. Thanks

alright,. i haven't gotten around to ordering the VSS to see if thats that fixes it but here ar ehte codes, hopefully they help

P1298 - ELD high output
P0135 - O2heat
P0141 - O2 sensor 2 heat
P1753 - Lockup continued soliniod P...(didn't catch the end line when writing them down)
P1768 - Linear Solinoid

Like i said before, i knew about the O2 sensor errors and i replaced that finally and the 2 O2 codes didn't show up after that was done. Would the other codes make any sense to be speed sensor related?

Check you ELD....which is a sensor inside the HOOD fuse box. As for the Linear Solenoid thats the one on top know also as Shift Solenoid A And B. Replace it. But first try replacing your ELD since it can be the cause of it. Or also check your fuses under the dash. One is for the ELD and VSS maybe thats why it aint working also. Im just throwing out ideas at you. Try Checking all fuses and go from there.

I agree. The fuse is #15 under the dash. It also protects the O2 sensor circuits.

Thanks,
Do you know how i could identify the ELD in the fuse box under the hood? (ie. location, what it looks like, markings, etc...)

Anyone know where I could buy an ELD and the soleniods? I can find the VSS, but not those, i've checked all over but without parts numbers it's tough to find.

PS thanks so much RonJ@HT and mortificationrock you've been so much help so far.

alright so after like 3 weeks its finally fixed! After a lot of diagnostics, it turned out to be the alternator that was bad.

I just have one more question, The lights in my car flicker and get brighter (not darker) occasionally when i'm driving. Is this supposed to happen when the alternator is replaced? Is it like a break in occurrence or could something else be wrong. i get no CEL's in my dash now but that might be because the computer was reset.

*********UPDATE*****************
Car is running fine now except the flickering lights. It's almost like a power surge but when i test the battery voltage, it drops by like 1/2 to 1 volt every now and then. Could I have maybe gotten a defective replacement alternator? I replaced the ELD and it didn't do anything for this problem. The CEL is on now and i haven't gotten a chance to read the codes yet. I don't have a computer to check the codes so i have to take it to my uncles' shop when we both have time.
ANY help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Nate

Is fuse 15 blown now?

Pull the CEL codes at home using the jumper wire method:
