Default possiable clutch/tranny problem. adjust clutch?

ok so when i bought my car(94 civic sohc) it had just had the clutch master cylinder replaced and i believe it might have been adjusted incorrectly since sometimes it is really hard to shift into second with the clutch fully depressed and into first as well(from a stop). reverse is sometimes hard to get into as well. and most of the time when i shift hard at high rpms from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd it will grind ever so slightly, could a poorly adjusted clutch piston thing(can't remember the name, its under the clutch pedal)? thanks for any help. one of my next mods will be a new clutch and flywheel so i want to know if i should fix something else first.
