PURE GUTTING
A guy at a performance shop had told me not to spend $ on an expensive header. He had told me for some cheap horse power I should gut out my existing exhaust manifold (headers) and that would give me an increase in hp!!! Does this sound right??? Give some feedback.. Thanks

Re: PURE GUTTING (CIVIX)
Well, if you can do it CORRECTLY, then super. Porting it out so everything flows correctly is the key. Nothing is going to replace the power afforded by a tubular header, though.

Re: PURE GUTTING (Formally_banned)
well whats the deal with those oem ITR headers?
Seems like the buzz is that the JDM ones perform better, or at least as good as
aftermarket headers.

Re: PURE GUTTING (Tad)
i wouldnt waste my time and effort to try and port the stock header, or your current existing header. if you have an aftermarket header, sell it and get a DTR,headertech,etc... bigg name header.
you pay the extra money but you get amazing results from it.

Look at how much time is spent in the design of these custom shop headers. It would be difficult, your collector will still be relatively small and to evenly port everything, omg. Good luck though.

The '98-up Spec JDM ITR headers are true headers that are tubular.
USDM ones and pre 98 versions are cast iron exhaust manifolds, which are the ones that are being duscussed for porting.
Tubular headers rule. You will only get so much flow out of the cast-iron units, and the cast-iron ones are way heavier, and they tend to crack sooner than a good tubular header.
Tubular is the way to go dude! Tubular!
